Here at Combat Plumbing, we believe in giving homeowners the tools and know-how they need to keep their drains flowing, clear up stubborn clogs, and stop their favorite items from getting washed away for good.
So when we stumble on something that promises to keep drains clean and clear without the hassle of de-clogging? Well, we have to pass along the knowledge to you!
While plumbers and particularly industrious DIY-ers have always jerry-rigged home plumbing solutions, including mesh drain protectors and screens, there are now several commercially-manufactured clog catchers and strainers available on the market, all promising to help keep your bathroom drains clear without you having to lift a finger.
The Clog Catcher ($14.99 for a four-pack through Amazon) comes in two sizes (for sinks and tubs )and attaches easily to your drain’s pop-up assembly; its flexible bristles allow water to effortlessly pass through while trapping clog-forming debris, including dirt and hair. Once the Clog Catcher is overstuffed, simply take it out and clean it with a hose or tap, then place it back on your drain.
Looking for something with a little more funky flair? Try the flower-shaped Stop-A-Clog Drain Protector ($7.99 for a two-pack), which uses suction cups to adhere directly to your bathtub’s surface and is easy to clean in the dishwasher (although take note, it won’t be compatible with pop- drains).
Want to keep your clog catching a little more clandestine? Go for the Tub Shroom (which retails for $12.99). Besides its funky name, this plastic clog-stopper fits neatly inside your tub or shower’s drain, where it promises to “catch every single hair, every single time you take a shower.”
What do you think? Have you ever tried one of these clog-preventing devices, or one like them? Did you get the results you wanted to see? Do you have another DIY method for keeping your drains hair- and debris-free? Be sure to let us know on Twitter or Facebook! We’d love to hear from you!
