Tips To Repair Water Flow Issues & Dishwasher Leaks
A dishwasher leak or water issue can become a major inconvenience for your household.
Inadequate Washing Problems
If your dishwasher is getting little or no water flow at all, there are a few components that may be at fault, and you can actually fix them yourself!
- Door Latch
There may be problems with the latch that locks the dishwasher door. If the door won’t lock into place, look for debris that may be causing a blockage for the latch.
- Water Flow Sensor
If the door latch is working, the problem might lie with the electronic water flow sensor that monitors and regulates water flow. If this sensor is malfunctioning, a replacement will be required.
- Water Supply Hose
If the water flow sensor is working, inspect the valve under your sink that moves your water to your dishwasher. If this is in the open setting then there may be a kink in the hose, halting the water. Look over this hose for kinks and straighten them out when you find them. This may require to you to take off the kickplate.
- Float Switch
The float switch is a plastic component that rises and falls slightly from the inside bottom of the dishwasher. It looks like a cone or a disc. This switch lets the dishwasher know that there is enough water during a cycle, ending the flow. This switch can sometimes get lodged into the higher position, which results in water flow stopping completely.

- Make a Visual Inspection
If you can open the kickplate between the bottom of your dishwasher door and the floor on the front, do so. Look underneath the dishwasher with a flashlight for leak sources. If you find a loose gasket or connection, you can simply tighten it up quickly with your household tools.
