Home Decor and Decorating Trends for 2017

What does the new year have in store for you? A new career? Exciting plans with family and friends? Maybe even a home renovation?

If it’s the last one that’s tickling your fancy, you’re not alone. Plenty of people will be updating their homes in 2017, whether that means major renovation projects, a DIY redecorating job in the bathroom or kitchen, or anything in between!

Want to get a jump on what will be cool in the months ahead? These are the major décor and decorating trends that the experts are watching for 2017:

Pattern Mixing

Look for statement pieces to become very on-trend in 2017, along with what designers like to call “controlled clashing.” Look for peppy kitsch and playfully out-there accents to take center stage for designers, from butterfly motifs to mixed pattern quilts and wallpapers.

Earthy Colors

Each winter, paint giant Behr releases its predictions for the biggest color trends to watch out for in the year ahead. What’s in store for 2017? If the experts at Behr are to be believed, get ready for the rise of naturalistic, earthy colors.

We see realistic, natural colors in all of Behr’s primary “personality categories” (Confident, Composed, and Comfortable) – dusky blues and navy tones, earthy greens and taupes, vibrant lime greens, and sunshine-aping yellows and pinks. All of these colors will add a pop of color to small rooms, or comforting class to large gathering spaces.

When it comes to color, you can’t go wrong in 2017!

Space-saving Fixtures

When it comes to appliances and fixtures in 2017, “less is more” will be the key philosophy. To that end, Elle anticipates that  2017 will be a year when designers “embrace fold-up rooms and tucked-away appliances.” Look for our cultural fascination with minimalism to continue in 2017, taking the shape of soft-closing cabinets, space-saving inserts, and immensely portable appliances and furniture pieces (a stool that folds up into a book, anybody?).

Faux Finishes

Don’t expect marble and granite to continue their iron-fisted rule of countertops in 2017. Instead, Elle says, “faux will be fashionable in 2017.” Not only are faux solutions more budget-friendly, but they also offer some important advantages over their more traditional counterparts – faux wood beams and finishes won’t warp like real wood, for instance, while quartz countertops actually resist damage better than standard marble.

Of course, when it comes to design, we’re mostly speculating. When it comes to repairing, replacing, inspecting, and maintaining your plumbing system, we’re tried-and-true experts!
