For many homeowners here in Red Oak, a new year means a fresh start.

For some, that’s a resolution to jog more or save money, and for others, that means undertaking home updates large and small.

One of the areas that people ask us about the most? The kitchen! Whether you’re looking for a total overhaul or a weekend project, there are all sorts of things you can do to add value, style, and functionality to this all-important space in the months ahead.

Looking for some inspiration? Here are five major kitchen trends to watch, courtesy of the helpful experts at HGTV and HouseLogic:

1.) Keep Your Colors Simple and Classic…

2017 seems poised to continue the color trends we’ve been seeing for some time now: Namely, monochromatic, super-chic black and white palettes will still be striking and popular next year. Looking to stand out? Muted grays are set to be a popular middle ground color for cabinets and backsplashes in kitchens across the country, perfect for letting you project your design sensibilities onto a cool, clear, and endlessly flexible canvas.

2.) …But Throw in Some Bright Accents

With that said, designers are looking to add new colors to unconventional places in the kitchen in 2017. In particular, look for the rise of painted fixtures, like green and pink sinks. And when it comes to countertops, traditional granite is out in favor of new shades of quartz, which bring new tones to the room while also bringing heat-resistant and non-porous surfaces to the busiest cook in your house.

3.) Add Bold Fixtures

Make your fixtures work, and work for you, as big statement pieces. Large, dynamic fixtures are a great way to add drama to your kitchen, without bringing in clutter. Instead, bold fixtures – including oversized light fixtures and shades – create the impression of depth, particularly for smaller kitchen spaces.

4.) Maximize Your Storage Space

And while we’re thinking about smaller kitchens, let’s talk about space-saving solutions, which are going to be huge – and on-trend – in 2017, as designers make them a bigger priority than ever. From counter-height fridges and wine cabinets to hidden ovens and microwaves to space-saving drawer designs, compact is the watchword for the months ahead. In particular, consider multi-tiered cabinets and hydraulic folding doors.

5.) Opt for High End Appliances

While micro-appliances are going to be on trend, as storage space becomes a selling point, high-tech will still be in. In particular, automated and touch-activated faucets have been growing in popularity for some time now, and seem poised to have a huge year in 2017.

Of course, all of these kitchen updates are worthless without one thing – a functional plumbing system! Whether you’re planning a major renovation or simply trying to keep your system running right, Combat Plumbing is here for all of your needs. Drop us a line, day or night, to get started!
