Remodeling Your Bathroom - What to Expect, and How to Prepare

Many of our clients around Red Oak have bathroom remodels on the top of their list for 2016.

A bathroom remodel, while a serious undertaking, can add significant value to your home, while improving your quality of living.

Figuring out exactly what you want is one of the most fun parts of the process. Picking out fixtures, colors, layout changes, luxurious spa add-ons, and other big changes can be unbelievably enjoyable - so much so that a lot of homeowners miss the forest for the trees.

It is important to not put the cart before the horse. Be sure to work with a trusted plumbing professional as you begin to identify your needs and desires for the remodel. Here are a few big ideas to keep in mind as you plan for that big bathroom upgrade:

Working With a Plumber

From the beginning, working with a plumbing professional on your remodel will grant you all sorts of benefits. A plumbing professional can identify whether or not, say, piping in the room will need to be altered, how proper flow in the pipes will be ensured, and provide you specific fixture options to suit your needs (and, of course, your price range).

Building Codes

A plumbing professional will likely be aware of local building codes that may come in conflict with any remodeling plans that you'll be working towards. You may, for example, need to obtain a permit in order to build in the bathroom of your condo. Your project may also require an inspection, both before and after the process, to ensure your bathroom is up to building codes.

Luckily, plumbing professionals will know how to make your work as simple as possible so that your bathroom will pass any and all inspections - saving you plenty of stress and money along the way.

Full Fixture Replacement

When remodeling the bathroom, you will most likely want to replace your shower and/or tub, and quite possible your toilet - all the better to maintain consistency in the space. A plumber will likely recommend this as well, especially as replacing fixtures will save you money on any replacements in the near future (and could well make your bathroom a lot more efficient). In other words, while a plumber is already working in your bathroom, it is a good use of time and money to fully update the space, rather than accomplishing partial updates over a longer period of time.
