How to Plan a Deep Clean of Your Home Before Winter (Source: Pixabay.com - used as royalty free image)

Do you find yourself constantly sneezing or wheezing around your home? Are you tired of grimy bathroom or kitchen surfaces? Can you not quite find the source of that weird odor?

For all of these issues and more, the best option is to plan and execute a deep clean of your home – particularly emphasizing your bathroom, kitchen, , water leak, sewer and gas line systems. While it makes sense to deep clean your home regularly (our friends at Angie’s List recommend scheduling a cleaning every six months or so, depending on your health needs), it’s particularly important to get in a thorough cleaning before winter comes to Red Oak, and you might find yourself stuck inside, relying heavily on your HVAC and plumbing for days or weeks at a time.

Ready to make your house feel comfortable, inviting, and fresh, before the year’s cold weather hits?  Take these simple steps to make sure your deep cleaning goes off without a hitch:

1.) Figure Out What Needs to Be Cleaned

There are probably some surfaces and systems that you make sure to clean all the time – your toilet, perhaps, or your bathroom and kitchen floors. Your deep cleaning day should, then, focus on the areas of your property that you don’t address on your weekly chore chart – hard-to-reach areas, less-trafficked rooms, and deep, internal systems.

In general, it may help to write out a list of the areas of your home that deserve a deep clean before you start. For our part, we recommend tackling your pipes and garbage disposal with all-natural cleaning solutions; taking a look at your grout; fighting back against any early warning signs of mold and mildew; polishing up your fixtures; and dusting your HVAC vents. A deep clean may also include structural elements of your home that you don’t get to all the time – your crown molding, for instance, or your ceiling fans, door frames, or the shadowy areas behind your furniture.

2.) Devise a Plan

While it may tempting to just start cleaning and then let one thing lead to another, this will lead to you missing areas or letting important tasks slip through the cracks. Instead, come up with a plan of attack, complete with bigger goals and subtasks.

You could even devise an hourly schedule, factoring in any breaks that you might need. Take care to make sure you have all of the tools and cleaning supplies necessary to take on your chore list before you start. And be sure to recruit help, if you need it – you never know when you may need help steadying a ladder or holding a flashlight, after all.

3.) Enjoy Yourself!

Put on music or a favorite movie as you clean to make the time go faster, or turn your task list into a friendly game. And when you’re done, take some time to reward yourself for a difficult job well done: Treat yourself to an ice cold drink, a delicious meal, or a steamy shower. Not only will this help you relax and unwind from the day’s labor, it will also allow you to really bask in just how luxurious a clean home can feel!
